We knew from the start that winning District 17 would be difficult, but we had other goals along the way that we set out to accomplish. And we accomplished them. We found each other. We gave voters a choice. We changed the conversation, and we’re finally talking about some very important issues that affect so many in rural Texas. Now we can begin the work to solve those issues.
Congratulations to my fellow Democratic candidates. Some won, some didn’t, but y’all stepped up because you saw a need and were determined to make change happen, and I’m proud to have run with you.
Now, we move on. This isn’t the end for me because the 86th legislative session starts in January and I will be there. I won’t be introducing and voting on legislation like I’d hoped to do when I began this campaign, but I will be there to hold our representatives accountable and make my voice heard. You still have work to do, too. You have to stay involved and be vocal about the legislation going through the process at the Texas Capitol. Your work doesn’t end with your vote on election day.
I’m going to take a little break, tackle all of those chores I’ve been putting off, and get prepared to continue the fight for human rights and social justice. You should also take a break, take some deep breaths, get some rest, and be ready to work along with me in January.
Congratulations to Representative Cyrier and I’ll see you at the Capitol in 2019.
